Origin of Amethyst
Amethyst is derived from the Greek word, ametusthos, meaning “not intoxicated.” Associated with the month of February, which is the month the Romans dedicated to Neptune, the God of water, Amethyst is the traditional birthstone of this month. As the insignia of the month of February, this stone carries the energy of love, creativity, spirituality, sobriety, and temperance. This sparkling, purple, crystalline quartz, originate in Africa and Brazil. While it may be found elsewhere, these are the most common locations of origin.
Uses for Amethyst
This stunning, Purple gem has been esteemed for its beauty and its abilities as a calming stone which works on the spiritual, emotional, as well as physical levels to bring about balance, and peace of mind.
